WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS COURSE FROM TCEQ

FIRST AND FOREMOST, I MUST COLLECT THIS FORM SIGNED BY EACH PERSON IN THE CLASS. You can print, sign and bring with you or I will provide in class but READ BEFORE YOU REGISTER!!!

Additionally, an applicant for a new license should:

1. Successfully complete the required training class(es) from approved providers.

2. Prepare the following documents prior to starting the electronic application (e-App) submittal by completing the forms online or printing the forms, scanning, and saving the forms to be uploaded:

a. Criminal History Notification Form.

https://www.tceq.texas.gov/licensing/criminal-conviction-notification

Individuals concerned about qualifying for a license should submit an evaluation at no cost prior to taking training and applying for a license. Areas of concern include offenses listed in the Code of Criminal Procedures Chapter 42A.054 and Chapter 62.001, e.g., murder, indecency with a child, sexual assault, aggravated robbery and kidnapping. Any criminal history questions should be directed to the Occupational Licensing (OL) Section.

b. Application fee in the amount of $111 paid via e-Pay using a credit/debit card, Electronic Funds Transfer, or electronic check. Note the voucher number provided in the e-Pay confirmation and enter it into the e-App when requested.

3. All applications, e-App or paper, must be received, reviewed, and approved by the TCEQ prior to registering for the corresponding exam. If the applicant’s e-App is complete with no deficiencies, then the application will be approved in 6-8 weeks (currently running 30 days processing time). We will review responses to deficiencies within two weeks.

4. Applicants will receive an approval letter with the information needed to complete the TCEQ online licensing exam registration for testing in a regional office, with TEEX, or in a proctored computer-based testing center.

5. TEEX or the regional office will send the complete paper exam sheets to TCEQ Occupational Licensing usually one to three weeks after the exam date. OL strives to grade the exam and issue the license for those who pass the exam within 5 business days. OL issues the license the next business day for those who pass a computer-based exam as it is graded immediately and the results are transmitted automatically to TCEQ.

If you have any questions regarding the preapproval process, you may contact Marc Fuentes at Marc. Fuentes@tceq.texas.gov or at 512-239-1465 or call 512-239-6133 for assistance from the Occupational Licensing staff.

ABOUT MY COURSE

My course is four days long, 8:00 to 4:30 each day, and must be completed successfully before being eligible to take exam. The manual provided is approved by TCEQ for the course so the material is appropriate for preparing to take your Irrigator License exam.

We cover six of the eight chapters of the manual on the first day. A lot of it is not all that important except for the chapter on Backflow Prevention.

The morning of the second day covers the chapter on Hydraulics. This is the part of the exam that most people struggle with and some also struggle with it in the class.

After showing you how to do the calculations, I will be calling on you to answer questions from the manual in front of the class. I need to see how you are progressing with the material to know how you're doing with your learning.

In order to be able to do these problems, you need to be COMFORTABLE with some basic math.

You will be doing multiplication (actually calculating percentages) and addition.

If you are not comfortable with understanding this type of math quickly, you will struggle.

If you struggle too much and slow the class down, I may ask you to go home from the class but come back later after you've had time to practice.

If you struggle in the class, you won't pass the exam so it's in your best interest.

The afternoon is the Design chapter. There is much to learn in this chapter as well.

The last two days are focused on you actually doing designs. TCEQ requires that you do four designs for the course and the last one is provided by TCEQ.
